Achieving SDGs in ERUA Curriculums

In today’s interconnected world, universities play a pivotal role in addressing global challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. During the ERUA project, five prestigious universities from different parts of the Europe – the University of the Aegean (UAEGEAN), the University of Paris 8 (PARIS8), Roskilde University (RUC), New Bulgarian University (NBU), and the University of Konstanz (UKON) – have come together to assess their progress toward these goals.

For Achieving SDGs in ERUA curriculums, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted for the five Alliance Universities. Courses were mapped in the 17 SDGs according to the course description and UN’s descriptions of SDGs. There are three most-achieving SDGs of high importance for each Alliance University. This approach allows them to assess their progress, set clear targets for future improvements, and also, facilitates the provision of the best practices for addressing global challenges effectively. This collaborative effort showcases the commitment of higher education institutions to create a more sustainable and equitable world, playing a more active role in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

As an ERUA Alliance

To illustrate the current inclusion in ERUA curricula regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a mapping framework was established to support learning and teaching themes related to SDGs. All ERUA courses were related directly or indirectly to “Sustainability” and categorised according to the specific SDG. The methodology followed was inspired by UC Berkeley’s prior study (conducted by Britney Wu, OS Student Fellow 2021) on UN SDG mapping.
